Of the 5 owners of North Pacific Timber Corporation, all are from Haida Gwaii and 3 are of Haida ancestry. We are proudly Haida owned and locally run.
WHY DO VALUE ADDED? WHY NOT SERVE THE MARKET DEMAND FOR RAW LOGS?
Haida Gwaii is world renowned for it's forests. It is widely recognized as having some of the finest stands of Cedar, Spruce, Hemlock and Pine. At NPTC we believe that just as those trees seeded and grew here, so too should the economy they support. Manufacturing logs into various products locally provides important local employment opportunities and further connects our communities to our forests.

At North Pacific Timber we are committed to sustainable harvest practices and supporting value added wood products on Haida Gwaii. As a company we are not driven by monetary gains as much as we are by effecting changes in how we see and harvest our forests. We strive to be the change we want to see.

WHY DOES NORTH PACIFIC TIMBER CORPORATION WANT TO FOCUS ON SELECT HARVESTING?
The owners of NPTC are strongly rooted in the community and culture of Haida Gwaii. We have long recognized the need to change harvest practices from standard clear cuts, which produce up to 30% wastage of cut timber alone, to a retention system that allows for timber to be harvested while leaving a standing forest with a healthy ecosystem in place. This allows our forests to be utilized by way of culture, community, and economy through recreation, tourism, cultural activities, community events and forestry.
